I'thou an dark shift ICU RN. My LO is 11 months now.
My sleep habits inverse drastically when I went back to piece of work afterward LO. I used to have a long nap before piece of work, merely now I sleep when he takes his naps. When I'thou working a few days in a row, I also am getting upwardly earlier (nearly 1445, compared to 1700 before). I take the hubs bring LO into nurse when he'south hungry throughout the twenty-four hours so my supply doesn't take a hit. And gone are the days when I would stay upwards all twenty-four hours after work.
It'south not piece of cake, but it's not impossible. I'll exist honest though, I'chiliad looking into going to solar day shift. I definitely meet LO more working nights, but it's tough on the body.
I don't have communication merely I'm also a night nurse expecting my first. My Plan is to sleep when the baby sleeps for the first few months (the days I take to sleep all day in between shifts). Once the baby isn't sleeping enough during the day I will get a babysitter one-2 full days a week or for at least 6-7 hours so I tin get some solid hours of sleep.
I'm nightshirt ICU nurse (3 12s) and I went back to work in June and I now have a 7 calendar month former and a 12 year old. If you're going to continue the shift my all-time advice is try during maternity go out to get your LO used to naps so you lot tin sleep when she sleeps afterward your shift. I work 3 day weekends so my married man is home during the day and try not to do back to back during the week--worst case scenario is I sleep similar crap but I can go to bed that nighttime. It worked well enough with my fief and I survived but it's a lot harder the 2nd time around (plus I'chiliad way older this time) simply I've been doing dark shift a long fourth dimension and I've become accustomed to the chronically tired feeling. The skillful things about nighttime shift is you save coin in solar day care and you don't miss annihilation (well besides sleep lol) and the non sleeping part doesn't last forever! Skillful luck!!
:)
