Metro 2033 developer 4A Games says there's no truth to rumors that the technology behind its upcoming shooter is based on the X-Light beam Railway locomotive that powered the 2007 issue S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

It's a uncolored assumption: After all, 4A Games was based by former employees of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Spirited Worldly concern who left the company a year in front IT was released and GSC Gage Cosmos founder Sergey Grigorovich has apparently claimed in the Russian gaming media that the Metro 2033 locomotive engine is based on pre-release S.T.A.L.K.E.R. code. Information technology's also pretty hard to argue that along the surface, leastways, 4A's post-apocalyptic FPS doesn't have a serious S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vibe going on. But 4A CTO Oles Shishkovtsov denies that thither's any connection between the deuce and furthermore, says IT wouldn't be practical to make the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. engine meet the demands of Metro 2033 anyway.

"There's atomic number 102 relationship [between the two]," helium told Eurogamer's Digital Foundry. "Back when I was working as lead programmer and technology architect on S.T.A.L.Kinetic energyR. IT became clearly unmistakable that many architectural decisions put into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. engine were great for the clock time when it was designed, just they just doesn't scale to the present day."

"The starring obstacles to the future of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. engine were its inbuilt unfitness to be multi-threaded, the weak and error-unerect networking model, and simply awful resourcefulness and memory management which prohibited any rather streaming or bu keeping the on the job gear up small enough for rachis then 'next-gen' consoles," he added.

He also claimed that the nature of the X ray Engine code left IT completely unsuitable for use on anything just a Microcomputer – presumably a high-end PC, as fans of the game stern testify. "When the philosophies of the engines are so radically different it is nearly unthinkable to share the code," helium said. "The final suffice is 'zero.' We do non have shared code with X-ray, nor would information technology be possible to do so."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. connectedness or not, there's no denying that the DirectX 11 screens for Metro 2033 that were released last week looking at super-hot. Is it finally metre to wave au revoir to DirectX 9 always? Metro 2033 launches on Mar 16 for the PC and Xbox 360.
